2°C dry, windy.
Today marks the first ride of #30DaysOfBiking 2013.
I took an age to get sorted and head out as I hadn't arranged to meet any of the guys. Far too much dithering about and laughing at the hilarious April Fools fakes online no doubt. Hmmm.
As I was going solo with no real route planned (I quite like it like that sometimes), I decided to set off into the wind and headed out for Sheffield Bottom to do the climb a few times. There's a great little climb which includes a switch back. There's also a network of lanes where if desired you can easily choose a route to take in a few laps.
A couple of laps later, and from there I doubled back for Aldworth along the Pang. This included a loop around Quick's Green to take in the steep 1:6 climb. Great fun to climb; awful to descend as there is no run-out at the bottom.
The weather certainly doesn't feel Spring-like with snow flurries still around. Just seems to be holding onto Winter and not letting go. Nothing settling though today.
After Aldworth I took the lovely long fast 2km descent down Thorn Hill only to find the road impassable at the bottom due to flooding. On seeing it, I had remembered my cycling buddy Jim saying something about this, but of course I had forgotten until it was too late.
Again, we've had so much rain over Winter that many lanes are still underwater. I have a rule that I'll go through water as long as it's not up to the bottom bracket. Didn't fancy this lane today so a quick U-turn and a long climb back up to the top was required.
From there, it was down through Hampstead Norreys and then a lovely bimble along the Pang Valley.
