Day 5 : 21.4 miles

Working from home today, so had originally intended to go out over lunchtime. But I decided to delay the ride until later afternoon once I'd got my work done as this would not restrict me to the hour. I headed out on the road at 4:30pm into the headwind under gloomy skies. Pace was pretty good into the wind and decided to go for an extended loop out towards Speen and double back through Newbury and then out along the Pang Valley.

Over the last few months I've leaned up in prep for the summer and shed over a stone in weight, and it's really noticeable on the bike. I wasn't overweight before, but I'm noticing a feeling of being stronger on the bike into headwinds and up hills. I guess its the power to weight ratio :)

The Pang Valley is perfect cycling country, and I stopped at the ford to take a photo (bike porn). And no, I didn't ride through it. Then onwards up over the ridge again, and back home. Wonderful 90-minute ride.

For me, this is actually Day 9 of my back-to-back rides, as I had the weeks commute leading up to the '30daysofbiking' initiative. I'm surprised the legs aren't stiff at all. It's early days I guess.
